A New Force in Asian Poker: Introducing WPG

WPG Taiwan CTP Partnership
(L-R) David Tai (CTP Owner), Anh Nguyen (WPG Founder), and Raymond Wong (CTP’s Director of International Marketing) sign a five-year partnership agreement ahead of WPG Taiwan 2026.

Founded in 2025, World Poker Games entered the Asian poker landscape at a pivotal moment, when the region’s competitive depth, player quality, and international visibility were all reaching new heights. Built by poker enthusiasts rather than corporate interests, WPG’s stated mission is to set new standards for professionalism and transparency while creating a world-class stage where Asian talent can compete, grow, and earn the global recognition it deserves.

The partnership with CTP marks a cornerstone of that vision, with the two sides having signed a five-year agreement to bring WPG’s series to Taiwan. By anchoring its debut in one of Asia’s most established and passionate poker markets, WPG is signalling its intent to build a sustainable, player-first ecosystem from the ground up. Taiwan has long been home to some of the region’s most dedicated tournament regulars, and the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei provides a fitting stage for the tour’s launch.

CTP expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration ahead of the series:

“We are delighted to partner with WPG and welcome players from around the world to join us. This collaboration marks an exciting step forward, and we look forward to creating an outstanding experience together.”

WPG Founder Anh Nguyen also spoke on the significance of the agreement:

“I’m honored to announce a long-term partnership with CTP, Asia’s industry leader. Together, we are scaling brands and advancing the Asian poker industry.”

The Main Event: TWD 10 Million Guaranteed

The centerpiece of the festival is the WPG Taiwan Main Event (#33), carrying a TWD 10,000,000 guarantee, which is by far the largest prize pool commitment of the series. With a TWD 22,000 buy-in and five starting flights running from May 28 through 30, the Main Event is designed to draw the widest possible field before Day 2 consolidates on May 31. The structure offers a 40,000 starting stack with 35-minute levels, giving players ample room to manoeuvre across the multi-day format.

The WPG Main Event represents the clearest statement of intent from the new tour: a major guaranteed prize pool at an accessible price point, positioned squarely in Taiwan’s competitive mid-stakes market.

Something for Every Player

Beyond the Main Event, the WPG Taiwan schedule is designed to keep players busy from morning to midnight across all nine days. The WPG Kick Off (#1) gets the series underway on May 23 with a TWD 10,000 buy-in and a TWD 2,000,000 guarantee across three starting flights, while the WPG Mystery Bounty (#16) adds an extra dimension to the mid-series action with a TWD 2,500,000 guarantee.

High Rollers are well catered for, with the Super Star Challenge (TWD 77,000), the All Star High Roller (TWD 45,000), the High Roller Special (TWD 55,000), and the Super High Roller (TWD 66,000) all featuring on the schedule. On the final day alone, players can choose between the Super High Roller, the TWD 800,000 guaranteed Monster Stack, and several additional side events, making May 31 one of the busiest closing days of any Asian festival this year.

The series also features a variety of formats throughout, including PLO, Short Deck, Big O, Double Board Bomb Pot, Run It Twice, and Win the Button, ensuring there is something beyond standard No-Limit Hold’em for players looking to mix up their game.

Taiwan: The Right Market at the Right Time

WPG Taiwan

Taiwan has been one of Asia’s most consistent and active poker markets for over a decade. Home to a deep pool of experienced tournament regulars, a well-developed local circuit, and a strong appetite for international-quality events, the country offers WPG precisely the kind of established player base a new tour needs to make a statement in its debut series. Events like the Taiwan Millions Tournament have demonstrated that Taiwanese players will turn out in force when a festival is structured and promoted properly.

The Asia Poker Arena in Taipei gives WPG a dedicated home for this first stop, and the scale of the schedule — 58 events across nine days, with buy-ins ranging from TWD 2,800 at the satellite level to TWD 77,000 for the Super Star Challenge — reflects a genuine ambition to serve the full spectrum of the local player pool.
